May 15, 2018

June 25 - 29: Making Comics Workshop at the Lexington Arts and Crafts Society, 3rd-8th grades (Divided)

3rd - 5th grade - 10:00-11:30AM
6th - 8th grade - 12:00-1:30PM

July 2 - 3: Out of the Frame - Brookline Arts Center, Ages 8-11
Thinking outside of the box is what artists do best. This week, we learn about some of the greatest artistic “rule-breakers” and learn to break some rules ourselves!* We will use only the strangest tools for painting, make “moving” portraits and sculpt creations out of the most unconventional materials.

July 9 - 13: Intro to Animation Workshop at the Lexington Arts and Crafts Society, 3rd-8th grades (Divided)

6th - 8th grade - 12:00-1:30PM

July 16 - 20: Words and Pictures: Comics, Cartooning, and Animation at the Mosesian Center for the Arts (Watertown, MA), Grades 5-8

From Sunday comics and graphic novels to Saturday morning cartoons and anime, the combination of words and images together is everywhere! In this program, students will work on building characters, driving storylines, and uniting images with words to convey a message. They will also experiment with adding movement and rhythm to their images as they delve into animation. This program culminates in an exhibit on Friday for family and friends.

July 23 - 27: Astro Art at the Brookline Arts Center, Ages 8-11

Create art that is out-of-this-world by building Martian colonies, painting galactic skies and crafting planetary lanterns. This week is all about outer space… shoot for the stars!

July 30 - August 3: Going Green at the Brookline Arts Center, Ages 8-11

Earth, fire, wind, water, heart… Go Planet! This week will focus on art-making and its relationship to the environment. Projects include outdoor art installations, nature-based painting and sculptures from recycled and repurposed materials.

August 6-10: Creatures of Myths and Fairy Tales – Mosesian Center for the Arts , 3-4th grades

Participants in this highly imaginative program will delve into the shadows of familiar stories to examine the creatures who dwell there. Artists will draw inspiration from common myths and folklore to create their own characters and interpret stories to develop new fictional environments. They will explore with wild things and turn the stories they think everyone knows on their heads! This program culminates in an intriguing exhibit on Friday for family and friends.

August 20-24: FAR OUT FICTION at the Brookline Arts Center, Ages 8-11

Strange and fantastic storytelling is the focus of this week as we draw inspiration from our favorite books, movies and tall tales. Students will have a chance to create their own far out fiction stories. Art projects include altered books, painting, set design, puppets and more!

August 27-31 – The Faces We Make – Mosesian Center for the Arts, 5-8th grade

The face is such a complex form, but one of the most familiar forms we encounter. Participants in this program will explore drawing and painting portraits (of themselves and others), learning specific techniques to improve their portrayal of a subject—including choosing what details to emphasize and the impact of those choices. Artists will also have the chance to explore the face as metaphor from disguise to alter ego! This program culminates in an exhibit of the many facets of faces on Friday for family and friends.
